Maths took on a whole new perspective when Miss Newton started drawing on the carpet! Oh it was exciting. One of the concepts we needed to master in position and orientation was the use of directions and co-ordinates. To start exploring this we played minefield on the concrete where the children got to draw their playing field on the lunch quad. The concept was then taken inside where Miss Newton drew, in chalk, on the carpet the minefield again. After that she got out tape and made the minefield into a grid and attached co-ordinates. Verbally the children then had to give Miss Newton directions, using co-ordinates, to get through the minefield without being blown up!
